The Bihar government is likely to increase dearness allowance (DA) by 2 percent for employees and pensioners under the Seventh Pay Commission. If approved, the DA will rise from the current 58 percent to 60 percent, aligning with the recent revision announced by the central government.
Currently, over 10 lakh state employees, pensioners and family pension holders receive DA at 58 percent, effective from July 1, 2025, following a previous 3 percent hike. The proposed increase is expected to provide financial relief amid rising inflation, though it will also place an additional burden of around ₹1,100 crore annually on the state exchequer.
The Bihar government typically follows the Centre’s pattern in revising DA, which is updated twice a year based on the All India Consumer Price Index. A final decision is expected soon.
