Big Solar Push! Bihar Plans Model Solar Village in Every District Under PM Scheme

Bihar is set to roll out an ambitious renewable energy initiative by developing a “model solar village” in every district under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The move aims to accelerate rooftop solar adoption and expand access to clean electricity, especially in rural areas. Officials have already shortlisted at least 11 villages in the first phase, with more to be identified through district-level evaluations.

The scheme offers financial incentives, including subsidies of up to ₹60,000 for small rooftop systems and bank loans at concessional rates, making solar installations more accessible to households. Villages selected under the program will also see the development of community solar plants, solar-powered street lighting, and irrigation systems.

The initiative aligns with India’s broader target of increasing solar-powered households by 2026–27. Authorities believe the project will reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, improve power reliability, and drive sustainable development across Bihar’s rural landscape.
