Bihar Bullet Train Project Gains Momentum as Survey Work Set to Begin

Brief By Newsbrief / 11:39 AM on 12 Apr 2026

The long-pending bullet train project in Bihar has received renewed attention, with Indian Railways preparing to begin survey work for a high-speed rail corridor connecting Varanasi to Siliguri. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is overseeing the project, and the survey is expected to commence around July or August 2026. This marks a significant step forward for a project that has been under discussion for several years.

The proposed corridor will span approximately 744 kilometres, passing through major cities in Bihar, including Buxar, Ara, Patna, Mokama, Begusarai, and Katihar. Designed for speeds of up to 300 km/h, the train is expected to drastically reduce travel time, enhancing connectivity between eastern and northern India. Officials believe the project will also stimulate economic growth, improve infrastructure, and create new opportunities across the region once completed.
