The Patna High Court has taken a firm stance on the worsening air and noise pollution levels in the city, expressing serious concern over administrative inaction. While hearing a case, the court observed that pollution had become a major civic issue due to weak enforcement of existing laws. Justice Rajiv Roy criticised the Bihar State Pollution Control Board for failing to effectively monitor and control pollution sources, despite issuing notices to various establishments.
The court also questioned police authorities over delays and inadequate action against violations, particularly regarding loudspeakers and DJ systems. Reports submitted by multiple police stations were found unsatisfactory, raising concerns about compliance with regulations. The court emphasized that laws such as the Noise Pollution Rules and Loudspeakers Act must be strictly enforced in real-world situations.
Additionally, officials have been directed to improve monitoring mechanisms, ensure accountability, and raise public awareness. The court also suggested community initiatives to address pollution concerns effectively.
