Government Sets April 30 Deadline for e-KYC, Warns of Ration Card Suspension

Brief By Newsbrief / 2:45 PM on 10 Apr 2026

The government has made e-KYC mandatory for beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS), setting April 30 as the final deadline to complete the process. Officials have warned that failure to update biometric details of all family members linked to a ration card could result in the card being cancelled or declared invalid.

The move is aimed at eliminating ineligible or duplicate beneficiaries and ensuring that subsidised food grains reach only genuine recipients. Authorities believe the initiative will improve transparency and strengthen the overall efficiency of the ration distribution system.

According to officials, e-KYC will help link individuals to a single ration card using Aadhaar verification, preventing misuse of benefits. Beneficiaries have been advised to visit nearby centres to complete the process on time. The government has clarified that no further extension will be granted beyond the deadline.
