Patna to Launch Electric Bus Service Linking Gandhi Maidan with Sonepur, Hajipur

Patna is set to introduce a fleet of electric buses in May, aiming to enhance urban mobility and provide an eco-friendly transport alternative. The Bihar Transport Department announced that four air-conditioned electric buses will operate between Gandhi Maidan, Sonepur, and Hajipur via Atal Path and JP Setu.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve connectivity for nearly five lakh residents, particularly those living along the Alal Path corridor who currently depend on private vehicles or auto-rickshaws. Officials said the service will also help reduce travel time, with some routes expected to cut journey duration by up to an hour.

The buses will feature modern passenger amenities and operate on a fixed route covering multiple key localities. Authorities believe the move will ease congestion, lower pollution levels, and offer a cost-effective commuting option. Services are likely to begin in the first week of May.
