New Mokama Rail Bridge Nears Completion, Promises Faster Connectivity in Bihar

A new rail bridge over the Ganga River at Mokama is nearing completion and is expected to become operational by June, significantly boosting connectivity between north and south Bihar. According to railway officials, the project will ease the heavy traffic load on the existing Rajendra Setu, where delays and congestion have long affected train operations.

The new bridge incorporates a rail-over-rail (ROR) system, enabling smoother movement of trains without halting mainline services. This is expected to reduce delays and improve efficiency across key routes, particularly between Danapur and Sonpur divisions.

In addition, plans are underway to expand railway infrastructure, including third and fourth lines between Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and Jhajha, and a proposed new bridge over the Son River at Koilwar. The initiative aims to modernize Bihar’s rail network and enhance passenger convenience.
