CBSE Cracks Down on Schools Over Unauthorized Fees for Class 10 Exams

Brief By Newsbrief / 9:47 AM on 01 Apr 2026

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a stern directive to schools across India, warning them against collecting any additional fees from students for the Class 10 improvement examinations. The board clarified that only the prescribed examination fee is permitted during the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC).

The action follows multiple complaints alleging that some schools were demanding extra charges, including tuition fees, during the LOC process. CBSE has termed such practices a clear violation of its guidelines and has warned of strict disciplinary action against institutions found guilty.

The board emphasized that the improvement exam, scheduled for May 2026, is intended to help students enhance their scores and should not become a financial burden. Schools have also been instructed to strictly adhere to the structured LOC submission process, which will be conducted in phases under official regulations.
