Global air quality monitor IQAir has released its 2025 report on the world’s most polluted countries, with Pakistan ranking at the top. Bangladesh and Tajikistan follow closely, while Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and India also feature among the most polluted nations. Other countries in the top 10 include Kuwait, Uganda, Egypt, and Uzbekistan.
The report highlights that Central and South Asia continue to record the highest annual average PM2.5 concentrations globally, indicating severe air quality challenges in these regions. PM2.5 particles, which are fine pollutants capable of entering the bloodstream, pose serious risks to public health, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
IQAir’s findings underscore the urgent need for stronger environmental policies, emission controls, and cross-border cooperation to address air pollution. Experts warn that without immediate and sustained action, worsening air quality could significantly impact global health and economic productivity.
