Dalai Lama Centre in Bodh Gaya Set for 2028 Completion to Promote Global Peace

Brief By Newsbrief / 7:02 PM on 23 Mar 2026

An international centre inspired by the Dalai Lama is under construction in Bodh Gaya and is expected to be completed by 2028. The ambitious project aims to promote peace, compassion, and global dialogue while positioning the site as a major hub for academic research and spiritual learning.

The foundation stone was laid in January 2023, and the initiative is being overseen by the Dalai Lama Trust with support from India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Bihar government. Spread across nearly 30 acres, the centre will bring together Indian and Tibetan philosophical traditions under one platform.

Officials say the institution will host scholars, researchers, and students from around the world, focusing on non-violence, interfaith harmony, and ethical values. Located in Bodh Gaya—one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites globally—the centre is expected to elevate the region’s status as a global intellectual and cultural destination.
