The sacred festival of Chaiti Chhath, dedicated to the Sun God (Aditya Dev) and Shashthi Devi, is being observed with deep devotion across Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh. This four-day ritual, known for its strict discipline and spiritual significance, began on March 22 with the ‘Nahay-Khay’ ceremony, where devotees purify themselves and consume satvik food.
The second day, ‘Kharna’ on March 23, involves a day-long fast without water, followed by evening prayers and the preparation of prasad such as jaggery-based kheer and roti. After this, devotees begin a rigorous 36-hour nirjala fast.
The third day is marked by ‘Sandhya Arghya’ offered to the setting sun, while the festival concludes with ‘Usha Arghya’ to the rising sun. Devotees believe that sincere worship during Chhath brings prosperity, good health, and fulfilment of wishes, making it one of the most revered festivals in the region.
