Chaiti Chhath Begins with Devotion as Thousands Gather at Patna Ghats

The four-day festival of Chaiti Chhath began on March 22 with the ‘Nahay-Khay’ ritual, as thousands of devotees gathered at Patna’s Gandhi Ghat and other riverbanks to offer prayers. Marking the start of the sacred observance, devotees took holy dips in the Ganga and consumed satvik food, symbolising purity and discipline.

Chhath, dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, is widely celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The festival is known for its strict rituals, including fasting, cleanliness, and devotion.

On the second day, ‘Kharna’ will be observed with a day-long fast followed by evening prasad. The third day will witness ‘Sandhya Arghya’ offered to the setting sun, while the festival will conclude on March 25 with ‘Usha Arghya’ to the rising sun.

Authorities have ensured proper arrangements at ghats, including cleanliness, lighting, and security for smooth celebrations.
