A minor girl was found dead in a well in Bihar’s Saran district, triggering a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The body was recovered near an abandoned house on March 11 after local residents spotted it in the well. According to preliminary postmortem findings, the cause of death appears to be asphyxia due to drowning, and no signs of sexual assault were detected.
Police said the girl had been communicating with a youth from her village through Instagram and had planned to meet him near the abandoned house on the day of the incident. Investigators revealed that the two were already acquainted and had spoken earlier that afternoon.
Following a complaint by the victim’s mother, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act. One youth has been arrested and admitted being present at the scene. Authorities are awaiting detailed forensic reports to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
