Police in Vaishali district have arrested a man accused of posing as a government prohibition officer and extorting money from liquor smugglers. The accused, identified as Prabhat Kumar, allegedly used an Ertiga car displaying a board marked “Bihar Government – Prohibition Department” to convince people that he was a government official.
According to investigators, the accused threatened liquor smugglers with legal action under the state’s prohibition laws and collected money from them in exchange for avoiding raids. During the investigation, police also discovered that the vehicle used in the operation had a fake number plate, which actually belonged to an XL6 car registered in Muzaffarpur.
Officials further revealed that the accused had earlier filed a false theft report for the same car and obtained a large insurance claim. Police recovered several suspicious documents from his possession. Authorities are now investigating whether other individuals were involved in the network and how many people were extorted.
