Automatic Jaggery Plant Opens in Gopalganj to Boost Farmers’ Income

A modern automatic jaggery manufacturing plant has been inaugurated in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, aiming to strengthen sugarcane farming and create new income opportunities for local farmers. Built at a cost of around ₹15 crore, the facility has been established in Khalgaon village of Panchdeori block under the state government’s Jaggery Industry Promotion Programme.

The plant, spread across two acres, is designed to process nearly 100 tonnes of sugarcane per day and produce more than 13 tonnes of jaggery using advanced automated technology. Officials say the project is expected to improve efficiency, enhance product quality and ensure better market opportunities for farmers.

Authorities believe the facility could help revive sugarcane cultivation in the region, which declined over the past two decades after several sugar mills shut down. Farmers have expressed optimism that stable procurement and modern processing facilities will encourage them to return to large-scale sugarcane farming in the district.
