Sultanganj–Aguwani Mega Bridge to Boost Bihar Connectivity and Economy

Brief By Newsbrief / 9:11 AM on 08 Mar 2026

A major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity in Bihar is steadily progressing with the construction of the Sultanganj–Aguwani four-lane mega bridge over the Ganga River. The 3.16-kilometre-long bridge will connect Khagaria and Bhagalpur, significantly reducing travel time between north and south Bihar. Officials say that if construction continues at the current pace, the ₹1,710-crore project could be completed by November 2027.

Along with the bridge, nearly 20 kilometres of approach roads are also being built, including four kilometres toward Sultanganj and sixteen kilometres toward Aguwani Ghat. The project is expected to strengthen road connectivity within Bihar and improve links with neighbouring states such as Jharkhand and West Bengal. It may also facilitate smoother trade routes toward Nepal.

Experts believe the bridge could boost regional trade, logistics and industrial development. Farmers from nearby districts will benefit from easier transport of crops such as maize, banana, rice and wheat to markets. The project will also make travel easier for pilgrims visiting Deoghar during the Shravan month.
