Bihar’s Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has initiated a statewide plan to strengthen water supply systems ahead of the summer season. Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal has directed officials to conduct panchayat-level inspections to identify vulnerable areas and assess the condition of water infrastructure. Mobile repair teams will be deployed to quickly address breakdowns and ensure uninterrupted water supply during peak demand. Officials have also been instructed to arrange alternative water sources where needed and complete logistical preparations on priority. The department reviewed operation and maintenance contracts, tanker services, and water ATM facilities to prevent supply disruptions. Special emphasis was placed on faster grievance redressal and clearing pending payments to pump operators to maintain smooth rural water distribution. Monitoring teams will be formed to oversee field inspections and preparedness measures. Authorities said the initiative aims to ensure reliable drinking water access across Bihar and prevent shortages as temperatures rise in the coming months.
