BHRC Seeks Patna SSP Report on NEET Aspirant’s Hostel Death

The Bihar State Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has sought a detailed report from the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) following the death of a NEET aspirant at a private hostel in the city. Taking suo motu cognisance, the commission described the incident as “extremely serious” and directed the SSP to submit findings within eight weeks. The student, a resident of Jehanabad district, was staying at a girls’ hostel in Kankarbagh while preparing for the medical entrance examination.

Concerns were raised after the postmortem report indicated injuries that suggested possible criminal involvement. A petition filed by a Muzaffarpur-based human rights lawyer urged an independent investigation under judicial supervision. Acting on the gravity of the case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a probe, questioning family members and examining the student’s belongings, including books, notes, electronic devices and personal items. Investigators have also seized the victim’s mobile phone for forensic analysis. The commission has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for April 22, as multiple agencies continue examining the circumstances surrounding the death.
