Holi Rush Fills Bihar-Bound Trains, Railways Add 1,410 Special Services

Brief By Newsbrief / 1:43 PM on 13 Feb 2026

With Holi approaching, Bihar-bound trains have witnessed an unprecedented surge in bookings, leaving most long-distance services fully occupied well in advance. Railway officials said seats on key routes connecting Bihar with Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and other states are unavailable between February 20 and March 3, reflecting the annual festive migration. The rush is largely driven by migrant workers and students returning home to celebrate Holi with their families.

To manage the pressure and ensure smoother travel, Indian Railways has announced the operation of 1,410 special train services across the country, a significant number of which will be run under the East Central Railway zone serving Bihar. These include special services on high-demand routes and additional trips of popular trains.

Officials also confirmed that around 200 special buses will operate from major states to Bihar to supplement rail services. Passengers have been advised to check train schedules regularly and plan journeys early as the festive rush intensifies.
