Prefabricated Shops Removed from Patna’s JP Ganga Path to Be Transferred to Jeevika

Prefabricated shops dismantled from Patna’s JP Ganga Path are set to be transferred to Jeevika to promote women-led livelihood initiatives, officials said. The move follows a proposal by Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL), which is expected to receive final approval at an upcoming Smart City board meeting. Around 200 prefabricated units will be handed over to Jeevika, Bihar’s livelihood promotion body, for allocation to women’s self-help groups.

The shops were originally installed along the JP Ganga Path as part of a Smart City project to create a dedicated vending zone. However, officials later acknowledged design flaws, stating the structures obstructed views of the Ganga river, prompting their removal. Nearly 500 units were initially constructed at a cost of ₹15.45 crore.

Jeevika has proposed using the relocated shops to help rural women establish small and medium businesses, strengthening income generation and economic independence. If approved, the initiative will mark a shift in Smart City infrastructure usage toward inclusive, livelihood-focused development, particularly benefiting women entrepreneurs across the state.
