Patna’s government schools are set to enter a new phase of digital monitoring as the Education Department rolls out mandatory online attendance for both teachers and students from February 10. Under the new system, attendance will be recorded through the Bihar Attendance App, with tablets provided to schools to track daily presence and classroom activities. The initiative currently covers around 3,400 government schools in Patna and is being implemented as a pilot project.
Officials said the move aims to strengthen accountability, curb absenteeism, and improve overall teaching standards. District Education Officers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance, warning that schools failing to follow the new rules will face action. Teachers will also have added responsibilities, including uploading photographs and videos of classroom activities, mid-day meals, and school cleanliness to designated portals.
The department believes digital attendance will create a transparent, real-time monitoring system and help maintain accurate records of student engagement. If the pilot proves successful, the model is likely to be expanded to government schools across Bihar, marking a significant step toward digitising the state’s education system.
