Patna is set to witness a major expansion of its clean energy infrastructure with plans to add 24 new compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across the district this year. The initiative aims to support the city’s rapidly growing fleet of CNG-powered vehicles and reduce vehicular emissions. Officials said construction work has already started at 12 locations, while preparations are underway to begin work at the remaining sites. Once completed, Patna will have a total of around 60 CNG stations, significantly easing pressure on existing facilities.
Several new stations are being developed in key areas such as R Block, Transport Nagar, Rajendra Nagar and the Phulwari transport complex. Authorities expect the Transport Nagar station to be completed by March, while the Phulwari project is awaiting final agreement between GAIL and the state transport department. In addition to standalone stations, CNG dispensing units are planned at 10 existing petrol pumps. Officials estimate Patna currently has nearly 30,000 CNG-run vehicles, a number expected to rise further, making the expansion crucial for cleaner and more efficient urban transport.
