Brief By Newsbrief / 3:58 PM on 06 Feb 2026

A sense of shock has gripped Rajgir in Bihar after four tourists from Bengaluru were found dead inside a room at a Digambar Jain guesthouse. The deceased—two men and two women—had checked into the guesthouse on January 31, according to police records. The incident came to light after local residents complained of a foul smell emanating from one of the rooms, prompting police intervention.

Officers reached the spot, sealed the room, and cordoned off the surrounding area. A forensic team from Patna was called to assist the investigation. Police said post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact cause and time of death. No official conclusion has been drawn so far.

Investigators are examining travel details, room conditions, and other material evidence. Preliminary information suggests the group had recently travelled to Nepal and was planning to visit Pawapuri, a prominent Jain pilgrimage site near Rajgir. Police have not ruled out any possibility and said further clarity will emerge after forensic and post-mortem reports are received.
