Brief By Newsbrief / 9:52 AM on 05 Feb 2026

Bihar witnessed severe fog conditions on Thursday, significantly disrupting normal life as visibility dropped to as low as 20 metres in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed 12 districts on alert, warning residents of dense fog during early morning and late evening hours. Districts such as Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Madhubani and parts of north Bihar were among the worst affected.

The IMD has also forecast a drop of 2–4 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over the next three days, intensifying cold wave conditions, especially during nights and early mornings. Meteorologists said there is no active western disturbance at present, indicating that cold and foggy weather is likely to persist.

Authorities have advised motorists to drive cautiously, use fog lights and avoid unnecessary travel during low-visibility hours. While daytime sunshine may provide brief relief, cold winds and dense fog are expected to continue, particularly in northern districts of the state.
