Bihar has outlined an ambitious industrial roadmap in its 2026–27 budget with the formal announcement of a Defence Corridor and a Semiconductor Manufacturing Park. The initiatives, approved in principle during the Nitish Kumar government’s first cabinet meeting on November 25, will now be implemented on a fast-track basis. The Defence Corridor is planned as a multi-district industrial route, bringing together public and private players to manufacture equipment for the armed forces and security agencies. Proposed production includes military uniforms, drones, artillery, assault rifles, carbines, pistols and sniper rifles. In parallel, the Semiconductor Manufacturing Park aims to position Bihar within India’s strategic electronics and chip-making ecosystem. The state government believes these capital-intensive projects will significantly boost investment inflows, strengthen manufacturing capabilities and create large-scale skilled and semi-skilled employment. Politically, the announcement is being seen as a shift in Bihar’s development strategy, with a sharper focus on industrialisation, defence production and manufacturing.
