Plans for the proposed Bodh Gaya Corridor were reviewed on Thursday as officials sought to strike a balance between boosting tourism and safeguarding local livelihoods. A meeting involving district authorities, traders’ associations and public representatives focused on improving infrastructure and facilities for pilgrims visiting Bodh Gaya, one of the world’s most significant Buddhist destinations, without disrupting residents and small businesses.

Officials said the corridor aims to enhance pedestrian access, crowd management, sanitation and public amenities around key religious sites. At the same time, concerns raised by local shopkeepers and residents over displacement and loss of income were discussed in detail. Authorities assured stakeholders that rehabilitation, compensation and phased implementation would be integral to the project.

The administration emphasised inclusive planning and continued consultations to ensure that development remains sensitive to the city’s cultural and religious heritage. Inputs from traders and community groups will be incorporated before finalising the plan, officials said, adding that sustainable tourism growth must go hand in hand with protecting livelihoods and preserving Bodh Gaya’s unique spiritual character.
