Rainfall Brings Back Chill as IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Bihar

Brief By Newsbrief / 9:47 AM on 29 Jan 2026

Cold conditions have intensified across Bihar following fresh rainfall in several districts, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert in five districts, including Patna. The rain, triggered by an active western disturbance and moisture from the Bay of Bengal, has led to cloudy skies, light drizzle, and dense fog in many areas.

According to the IMD, temperatures across the state are expected to remain subdued, with maximum readings hovering between 20°C and 24°C, while minimum temperatures may dip to around 6–10°C. Bhagalpur recorded the lowest minimum temperature, while heavy rainfall was reported from parts of Bagaha.

The weather conditions also disrupted rail services, with several long-distance trains running behind schedule due to poor visibility caused by fog. Meteorologists said a sharp cold wave is unlikely, but chilly mornings and evenings are expected to persist for a few more days, keeping winter conditions intact across the state.
