Bihar Sees Surge in National Permits, Boosting Road Logistics

Brief By Newsbrief / 8:32 AM on 20 Jan 2026

Bihar is witnessing a significant shift in road-based logistics as the number of national permits continues to rise, easing interstate freight movement and strengthening supply chains. Data show that between April 1, 2025 and January 15, 2026, the state issued 31,750 national permits, placing it 13th among 28 states—an improvement that signals growing confidence in Bihar’s transport ecosystem.

National permits allow goods carriers to operate seamlessly across states without seeking separate approvals, cutting transit time and costs for truck operators while reducing dependence on rail freight. The impact extends beyond transport, supporting trade expansion, job creation, and overall economic health.

While Haryana leads with 1,69,821 permits, followed by Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, Bihar’s steady rise marks a clear turnaround from earlier years. Officials say the trend reflects improved connectivity and policy focus, effectively “greasing the wheels” of the state’s economy and positioning Bihar as a stronger player in national road logistics.
