Bihar’s Moni Chaudhary has etched her name in mountaineering history by successfully conquering Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. The Bhojpur district native reached Uhuru Peak, standing at 5,895 metres, on January 1, 2026, after completing a challenging seven-day expedition marked by extreme cold, high altitude, and demanding terrain.
A resident of Ara, Chaudhary is a manager at Bihar Gramin Bank and balanced her professional responsibilities with intense physical training and preparation. Her journey across dense forests, moorlands, alpine deserts, and freezing conditions tested both her endurance and mental resilience.
Chaudhary’s achievement builds on her previous mountaineering experience, which includes climbing Mount Yonam in Himachal Pradesh and completing the Annapurna Base Camp trek in Nepal. She also underwent formal mountaineering training in Manali. Largely self-funded, she believes stronger government backing could help talented Indian climbers aim for even greater global milestones.
