Quick Thinking Averts Major Train Mishap at Motipur Crossing

A major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Monday at the Motipur market railway crossing, where a moment of alertness saved dozens of lives. According to eyewitnesses, despite the railway gate being closed, several bikers and pedestrians irresponsibly entered the tracks and got stranded midway. At the same time, a freight train was passing on the Muzaffarpur–Gorakhpur route, while a passenger train from Narkatiaganj was approaching from the opposite direction, creating a highly dangerous situation.

Panic broke out as people realised the imminent threat, with many abandoning their motorcycles and running for safety. The situation could have turned catastrophic within seconds. Sensing the danger ahead, the passenger train’s loco pilot immediately applied emergency brakes and brought the train to a halt just in time. Following this, railway staff and local residents helped clear the tracks, safely evacuating those trapped. After ensuring the line was clear, the passenger train resumed its journey. A video of the incident has since gone viral, highlighting both public negligence and the importance of quick decision-making.
