Patna has recorded its cleanest air quality in four years during the winter of 2025, marking a significant improvement in pollution levels across the state capital. District officials attributed the progress to sustained dust-control measures, stricter enforcement against vehicular emissions, and coordinated action among multiple government agencies. According to the district administration, the Air Quality Index (AQI) during December and January largely remained below 200, a notable decline compared to previous years when pollution levels frequently crossed hazardous thresholds.
District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan S.M. said the improvement reflects consistent implementation of pollution-control policies but stressed that continued efforts are necessary. To build on the gains, authorities have prepared a comprehensive action plan for 2026 aimed at further reducing air pollution. The plan includes large-scale tree plantation drives, tighter monitoring of polluting vehicles, awareness campaigns to prevent stubble burning, and enhanced inter-departmental coordination.
Officials said departments such as municipal bodies, transport, traffic police, pollution control authorities, and agriculture will work in “mission mode” to ensure effective execution. The administration believes sustained green initiatives and strict compliance will be key to improving Patna’s air quality in the coming years.
