The Bihar government is set to strengthen district-level healthcare by introducing an electrolyte testing facility at Sadar Hospital, marking a significant step toward affordable diagnostics. Until now, patients were compelled to depend on private laboratories for electrolyte tests, often spending substantial amounts. With the new facility, tests measuring vital minerals such as sodium, potassium and chloride will be available within the government hospital at minimal cost.
Health officials said preparations are underway to make the service operational at the earliest. The Central Pathology Laboratory has been inspected, and technical arrangements are being finalised to ensure smooth functioning. Doctors explained that electrolyte tests play a crucial role in diagnosing dehydration, kidney disorders, infections and other conditions that can disrupt mineral balance in the body.
The initiative is expected to improve early detection, reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients and ease the burden on private diagnostic centres. The state government plans to gradually expand similar diagnostic facilities to other district hospitals, aiming to improve access to quality healthcare across Bihar.
