Deepak Kumar Mishra has been appointed Joint Secretary in the Bihar Chief Minister’s Secretariat, marking a significant administrative reshuffle at the state’s decision-making core. A 2019-batch IAS officer, Mishra was previously serving as Municipal Commissioner of Biharsharif, where he earned recognition for a hands-on, technology-driven approach to urban governance. His work focused on improving sanitation systems, traffic management, transparency, and real-time monitoring through data-based tools.

Originally from Siwan district, Mishra is an alumnus of IIT Delhi, where he studied mechanical engineering. He cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2018 with an all-India rank of 511 and joined the IAS the following year. Before entering the civil services, he worked with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and also spent time with Indian Railways, experiences that shaped his administrative and project management skills.

Officials say his appointment reflects the government’s preference for officers with strong field experience and technical expertise to support policy formulation and execution at the highest level of state administration.
