Cold Wave Tightens Grip on Bihar

Bihar continues to face an intense cold wave, with harsh winter conditions disrupting daily life across the state. On Thursday, minimum temperatures in most districts dropped below 10 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest spells of the season. Gaya emerged as the coldest city, recording a minimum temperature of just 4.1 degrees Celsius. In Patna, residents experienced biting cold due to high humidity levels, which made the chill feel more severe than the actual temperature.

Meteorologists said that humidity touching nearly 100 percent in several districts has intensified the impact of cold conditions. As a precautionary measure, authorities extended school closures in multiple districts, especially for younger students. Dense fog further worsened the situation, severely reducing visibility in areas like Gaya, where it fell to as low as 50 metres. Darbhanga, Chhapra and Valmikinagar witnessed severe cold-day conditions, while Gaya, Bhagalpur and several other districts remained engulfed in thick fog.

Daytime temperatures in Patna stayed well below normal, accompanied by cold winds, offering little relief even after sunshine. Weather officials have warned that there is no immediate respite from the cold wave, and such conditions are likely to persist through the week.
