Cold Wave Forces School Closures in Supaul, Timings Revised

Supaul district administration has announced temporary changes in school operations due to the prevailing severe cold wave and plummeting temperatures across the region. Acting to safeguard children’s health, the District Magistrate has ordered the complete suspension of academic activities for students up to Class 8 in all government and private schools, as well as anganwadi centres, for January 9 and 10, 2026.

For senior students, schools will not be entirely shut but their schedules have been revised. Classes for students of Class 9 and 10 will now be conducted from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, avoiding early morning hours when cold conditions are most extreme. Officials believe this adjustment will reduce health risks while allowing academic continuity.

The directive has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, empowering the administration to act during emergencies. The order, released on January 8, will remain in effect for two days across the district. Authorities have advised parents and schools to strictly follow the guidelines to ensure student safety during the cold spell.
