Valmikinagar Airport in West Champaran is steadily advancing toward commercial flight operations, raising expectations of improved air connectivity for the region. A recent inspection by a team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) focused on assessing the airport’s current condition and identifying requirements for regular commercial services. Authorities are planning technical upgrades, runway expansion, and enhanced safety measures to meet aviation standards.
Officials said essential works, including soil testing, boundary strengthening, vegetation clearance, and improved security arrangements, will begin soon. A senior police officer will be posted at the airport, with additional personnel deployed to maintain law and order once operations start. Connectivity to the airport is also set to improve, with the approach road linking it to the national highway proposed to be widened and developed into multiple lanes.
Currently, the runway length restricts the size of aircraft that can operate, but plans are underway to extend it to accommodate larger planes. With coordinated efforts from revenue officials, AAI, and local administration, Valmikinagar Airport is expected to soon enter a new phase, supporting regional development, tourism, and economic growth.
