Gaya Metro Project to Reshape Urban Travel with 28 Stations

Gaya is poised for a significant transformation in urban transportation with the proposed Gaya Metro project, aimed at improving connectivity across the historic city. The metro plan envisions two corridors spanning nearly 36 kilometres and comprising 28 stations, strategically designed to link major educational hubs and prominent religious landmarks. Key sites such as Bodh Gaya, the Mahabodhi Temple, and the Vishnupad Temple are expected to gain faster and more convenient access, benefiting pilgrims, students, and daily commuters alike.

According to officials, the first phase of surveys has been completed and route alignments have largely been finalised. The North–South and East–West corridors will connect residential areas with airports, colleges, and commercial zones, significantly reducing travel time and traffic congestion. Authorities believe the metro will play a crucial role in easing pressure on existing roads while promoting sustainable urban mobility. Once operational, the Gaya Metro is expected to boost tourism, support economic activity, and modernise public transport in one of Bihar’s most culturally significant cities.
