Nearly 3,000 government-appointed teachers in Bihar are under serious scrutiny after a vigilance investigation revealed large-scale irregularities in their academic records. The probe found that these teachers were recruited using forged certificates, fake marksheets, altered roll numbers, and even documents belonging to other candidates. The verification exercise, completed across multiple districts in December 2025, has already led to FIRs being registered against all identified individuals.
Officials said discrepancies were also found in personal details such as names and institutions, with some certificates traced to non-existent universities or unrecognised education boards. The inquiry was initiated following orders of the Patna High Court and covers appointments made between 2006 and 2015. Vigilance authorities warned that the number of affected teachers could increase as verification continues.
If the allegations are proven, mass dismissals are likely, raising concerns over staff shortages in schools. Separately, questions have been raised about thousands of candidates who failed or skipped mandatory competency exams, adding pressure on the education system to ensure transparency and accountability.
