Patna Airport to Add Three New Aerobridges for Faster, Weather-Protected Travel

Patna Airport is set to significantly enhance passenger convenience with the addition of three new aerobridges, marking a major infrastructure upgrade in the new year. Airport authorities have confirmed that two of the aerobridges have already been installed, while the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sought approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for their commissioning. The third aerobridge is nearing completion, and permission for its operation will also be requested shortly.

Once all three aerobridges become operational, Patna Airport will have a total of five aerobridges, placing it among the better-equipped airports in eastern India. Currently, passengers often have to walk across the tarmac and use buses or stair ladders after security checks, a process that can take 15 to 20 minutes and exposes travelers to extreme heat, rain, and other weather-related discomforts. The new aerobridges will allow direct boarding and deplaning, ensuring a safer, faster, and more comfortable experience.

Aviation experts note that aerobridges are a key requirement under international civil aviation standards, particularly for airports handling rising passenger traffic. Officials said the expansion will help reduce congestion, improve aircraft turnaround time, and minimize delays. With these upgrades, Patna Airport is expected to move closer to international service standards, benefiting both domestic and future international travelers.
