Rawalpindi: England captain Harry Brook set a new record for the fastest double century in men’s One-Day International cricket during the match against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Brook reached the 200-run mark in just 114 balls, surpassing India captain Shubman Gill’s previous record of 117 deliveries.

Brook eventually scored 202 off 116 balls, smashing 21 fours and 10 sixes. His remarkable innings also made him the first English batter to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket. England finished their 50 overs at 429/4, setting Sri Lanka a challenging target of 430.

However, Brook’s historic performance could not secure victory for England. Sri Lanka completed a remarkable chase, winning by two wickets with one ball remaining. Pavan Rathnayake led the visitors with 130 runs, while Avishka Fernando and Dasun Shanaka narrowly missed centuries, scoring 97 each.

Men’s ODI cricket has now witnessed 14 double centuries by 11 batters. India’s Rohit Sharma leads the list with three double hundreds, while Gill has scored two. Brook’s achievement adds another milestone to the format’s record books, even though his team ended the match on the losing side.
