Around 30 students of PM Shri High School Tilmi in Khunti district’s Karra block fell ill after returning from an educational trip to Gurukul and Ranifall in Torpa. The students developed vomiting, diarrhoea, high fever and stomach pain, prompting several admissions to Karra Community Health Centre.
The trip was organised on October 3, and students reportedly prepared food themselves during the outing. Some students also ate food purchased from roadside vendors near the picnic location. However, the exact cause of the illness remains unclear, with the health department investigating the incident.
Most affected students are from Tilmi, while cases have also been reported from Masko and Barwadag villages. Civil Surgeon Dr Lalit Ranjan Pathak said the children are currently stable and receiving treatment.
Health teams are conducting door-to-door medical surveys in the affected villages, providing examinations and medicines. The district hospital has also been kept on alert as authorities await a detailed investigation report.
