Land Subsidence in Dhanbad Causes House Collapses, Child Reportedly Dies

A major land subsidence near Sijua Kali temple in Dhanbad’s Jogta area caused several houses to collapse on Tuesday morning, triggering panic among residents. Villagers launched rescue efforts and pulled people trapped under debris to safety. Several injuries have been reported, with around six to seven people said to be hurt. A child is also reportedly dead, according to Baghmara MLA Shatrughan Mahato, who reached the spot.

Residents alleged that illegal coal mining carried out in the area previously weakened the ground and contributed to the disaster. The allegation has prompted demands for a detailed investigation.

Following the incident, angry residents blocked the Katras-Sijua main road, seeking immediate rehabilitation and safe housing for affected families. Protesters said their agitation would continue until proper arrangements are made. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of collapsed houses and affected residents, while fear remains in the area amid continuing public concern.
