Jharkhand Reports Eight Confirmed H1N1 Swine Flu Cases

Jharkhand has reported eight confirmed cases of H1N1, the virus responsible for swine flu, among samples collected from suspected patients across the state. Most cases have been detected through testing at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi.

The state Health Department has not yet released an official statement confirming the number of cases. However, RIMS Microbiology Department head Dr Manoj Kumar acknowledged that several samples tested positive for H1N1.

Amid growing concerns, the Additional Chief Secretary of Health has directed civil surgeons and deputy superintendents of Sadar hospitals across Jharkhand to remain prepared and ensure necessary arrangements.

Health Department sources have also indicated suspected infections in Ranchi, including reports involving a RIMS doctor and his son, hostel students and patients at a private hospital. These reports have not been officially confirmed.

Dr Kumar said H1N1 is generally not highly dangerous, but elderly people, children and those with serious underlying illnesses may face greater risks.
