After years of focusing on premium electric scooters, Ather Energy is preparing to expand into the mass-market segment with the launch of a new scooter based on its EL platform. The company is expected to unveil the model during its Community Day event on August 29, marking a major step in its strategy to increase market share.

The upcoming scooter is expected to be priced at around ₹1 lakh, making it Ather's most affordable electric scooter so far. Industry reports suggest it could be priced even lower than the company's popular Rizta scooter, helping Ather reach a much wider customer base.

The announcement comes shortly after Hero MotoCorp committed ₹1,000 crore in fresh investment in Ather Energy. The funding is expected to strengthen product development, manufacturing capacity, charging infrastructure and software improvements, further supporting the company's expansion plans.

Ather has already started updating its existing lineup ahead of the new launch. Select variants of the Rizta, 450S and 450X now feature Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells. LFP batteries are known for offering improved durability, better thermal stability and a longer lifecycle compared to conventional battery technologies.

The Ather 450S and 450X equipped with a 2.9 kWh battery pack offer claimed IDC-certified ranges of 122 km and 126 km, respectively. Variants powered by the 3.5 kWh battery pack deliver a claimed range of 161 km.

While Ather has not revealed detailed specifications of the upcoming scooter, expectations are high that it will be designed specifically for mainstream buyers seeking an affordable, reliable and feature-rich electric two-wheeler. The launch is expected to intensify competition in India's rapidly growing electric scooter market and strengthen Ather's position beyond the premium segment.
