Jharkhand Set to Get Two Sleeper Vande Bharat Trains

Brief By Newsbrief / 8:09 PM on 16 Jul 2026

Rail passengers in Jharkhand may soon receive a major boost as Indian Railways plans to introduce two Sleeper Vande Bharat trains. The proposed routes include Shalimar–Mumbai via Tatanagar and Chakradharpur, and Tatanagar–Varanasi, with the South Eastern Railway having already submitted its proposal to the Railway Board. Once approved, Tatanagar will gain its fifth Vande Bharat service, offering faster and more comfortable long-distance travel.

To support the expansion, the Railways is planning a modern coaching depot at Tatanagar at an estimated cost of ₹283 crore, addressing the long-standing shortage of washing and maintenance facilities. The project is expected to improve operational efficiency and support premium train services. Local MP Bidyut Baran Mahato and members of the Railway Advisory Committee have also pushed for improved rail connectivity, including the revival of the Antyodaya Express. The proposed services are expected to benefit passengers across Jharkhand and neighbouring states.
