Jharkhand Government’s Review Meetings Trigger Political War

Brief By Newsbrief / 2:48 PM on 16 Jul 2026

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s ongoing review meetings with government departments have triggered a political confrontation between the ruling JMM and the opposition BJP. Soren has been assessing the performance of nearly every department while directing officials to improve governance, ensure better implementation of welfare schemes and make the administrative system more responsive to public needs.

The BJP criticised the exercise, calling it a mere publicity campaign. Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi questioned the government's performance, claiming that only three mines had been auctioned during the government's tenure and alleging that the review meetings were intended to divert public attention.

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha rejected the criticism, asserting that the government was elected with a strong public mandate and remains focused on fulfilling its promises. JMM leaders said the reviews are aimed at identifying administrative shortcomings, improving service delivery and ensuring government schemes reach beneficiaries effectively across the state.
