A 35-year-old man who was critically injured in a shooting incident near an alleged gambling den in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district has died during treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. The incident has raised concerns over the growing influence of criminals allegedly involved in extortion and illegal gambling activities in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Munna Prasad Soni, a resident of Tandwa under Garhwa police station limits. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near the Dhanro River, close to the cremation ground in Tandwa. It is alleged that an argument broke out over the payment of commission at a gambling den, following which unidentified assailants opened fire. Munna was hit by a bullet below the left side of his chest, leaving him critically injured.

Local residents immediately rushed him to Garhwa Sadar Hospital, where doctors provided first aid. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was referred to RIMS, Ranchi, for advanced treatment. Hospital sources said the bullet remained lodged inside his body and could not be removed immediately. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The victim’s death has left his family devastated and created tension in the locality. Police reached the spot after receiving information and have begun an investigation. Officials said multiple teams are conducting raids to identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting.

Police have not yet confirmed the exact motive behind the attack, but preliminary inputs suggest the firing may have been linked to a dispute over commission at an illegal gambling den. Authorities said all angles are being investigated, and those involved will be brought to justice soon.
