Palamu Road Tragedy: One Killed, Four Injured as Pickup Van Hits Auto; Villagers Block Road

A tragic road accident claimed one life and left four others seriously injured on Tuesday near Simarsot Mor along the Haidernagar–Japla main road in Jharkhand's Palamu district. The accident occurred when a speeding pickup van collided with an auto-rickshaw carrying passengers from Lapeya village to Japla market.
According to officials, the collision was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was badly damaged, creating panic among locals. The injured were immediately rushed to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Hussainabad with the help of local residents.
Doctors declared 60-year-old Bihari Paswan, a resident of Lapeya village under Haidernagar police station, dead on arrival. One of the seriously injured, Kalawati Devi, was referred to Medininagar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment after receiving primary medical care. Three other injured passengers—Nanhki Devi, Anjali Kumari and Premshila Devi—are undergoing treatment at the Hussainabad hospital.
Police said the accident took place when the auto-rickshaw entered the main road near Simarsot Mor and was struck by the pickup van. Haidernagar Police Station in-charge Tanzilul Mannan reached the spot soon after receiving the information and seized the pickup vehicle. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Following the incident, angry villagers blocked the Haidernagar–Japla road, demanding adequate compensation for the victim's family, proper medical treatment for the injured and strict action against those responsible for the crash. The blockade led to long traffic jams on both sides of the road, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Police and administrative officials, including Circle Officer Santosh Kumar, are at the scene trying to persuade protesters to lift the blockade while assuring them of appropriate legal action and necessary assistance. The investigation into the incident is currently underway.
