Man Tied to Electricity Pole, Assaulted by Villagers in Garhwa

A man was allegedly assaulted by villagers after he was found visiting a woman in Singhitali village under Bhawnathpur police station in Jharkhand's Garhwa district. The incident came to light after local police intervened, rescued the man, and took both individuals to the police station for questioning.
According to police, the man, identified as Balram Thakur, is a resident of Basariya village in the Meral police station area. Preliminary information suggests that he had been in a relationship with a married woman from Singhitali village for several years. On Wednesday night, he reportedly went to meet her at her residence.
During the visit, the woman's mother-in-law allegedly discovered the two inside the house. She reportedly locked the room from the outside and informed nearby villagers. Soon, a large crowd gathered at the spot. After the room was opened, villagers allegedly caught the man, tied him to an electricity pole, and physically assaulted him. The incident attracted a large number of onlookers.
After receiving information about the incident, the Bhawnathpur police reached the village and rescued the man from the crowd. Both the man and the woman were brought to the police station, where officers questioned them and spoke to members of both families.
Bhawnathpur Police Station in-charge Rajni Ranjan said that neither side submitted a written complaint. Police confirmed during the preliminary inquiry that both individuals are adults. Since no one sought legal action or filed an FIR, the matter was not pursued further, and both were later handed over to their respective families.
Police, however, emphasized that taking the law into one's own hands is illegal. Officials urged the public to report disputes or suspected offences to the police instead of resorting to violence, warning that assaulting or publicly humiliating any individual is punishable under the law.
