A fatal road accident late Saturday night in Dhanbad’s Baghmara subdivision triggered widespread outrage after a speeding Hyva truck allegedly struck a four-wheeler, killing one youth and critically injuring another. The incident took place on the Jamuatand-Harina Hirak Road under Barora police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Kumar, a resident of Khonathi Basti. According to preliminary information, Saurabh was travelling in a four-wheeler along with a companion when the speeding truck collided with their vehicle. The impact of the crash was so severe that the vehicle was extensively damaged. Saurabh died on the spot, while his companion sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Dhanbad for treatment.
After the collision, the truck driver reportedly fled the scene along with the vehicle. Acting swiftly on information received, Barora police reached the accident site and launched an investigation. Under the supervision of Station House Officer Sadhan Kumar, police examined CCTV footage from nearby locations to trace the vehicle involved in the accident.
During the investigation, the suspected Hyva truck was recovered in an abandoned condition near the Muraidih workshop area. After verifying its involvement through CCTV footage, police seized the vehicle and intensified efforts to identify and arrest the driver.
The death of the young man sparked anger among family members and local residents. Protesters gathered at Harina Hirak Chowk and blocked the road, demanding immediate arrest of the accused driver, adequate compensation for the victim’s family, and strict legal action in the case.
The blockade led to long traffic queues on both sides of the road, severely disrupting vehicular movement. Police and administrative officials reached the spot and held discussions with protesters in an attempt to restore normalcy. At the time of reporting, efforts to end the road blockade were still underway.
